Labs & Specialty Testing

Routine Labs and Pathgroup:

Labs ordered during your appointment are sent electronically to your preferred lab.  Please refer to your care summary for more information regarding your lab tests – here you will find a list of your ordered tests, as well as information regarding time frame to have them completed, whether or not you need to fast, any medications or supplements you may need to avoid taking prior to lab work, and if there is a specific time of day they should be collected.  If you have questions regarding preparation for lab work not answered in your visit summary, please reach out and we will be happy to assist you.

We are partnered with PathGroup Laboratory.  PathGroup Lab is located conveniently a few doors down from our clinic in Suite 101 (inside the Dentist Office).  This lab is dedicated to providing lab services to patients of IMCNC only.  It’s walk-in only, however wait times should be at a minimum due to this location only serving our patients. You will need to bring your insurance card with you and all orders should be in their system electronically.

Updated Pathgroup Hours as of April 3rd, 2023:

  • Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm

  • Closed for lunch each day from 12:30pm to 1:30pm

  • We strongly encourage children to visit PathGroup on Mondays and Fridays as a courtesy to the Dentist office PathGroup resides in.

IMC’s preferred lab is PathGroup

PathGroup is in network with ALL insurance plans, is very patient-friendly and we work closely with them to get the best for our patients. Regardless of what lab you choose to use, if your insurance will not cover a test that is ordered by your Provider, we do not re-code labs so that insurance will cover them as that is healthcare fraud. Because there are so many different  insurance plans, we have no way of knowing which lab tests your specific plan will cover. Exercise your right to decline any tests that you are unsure your insurance plan will cover.

For any Billing related questions please call the IMCNC PathGroup representative, Deborah Barnard at (980) 297-9886. The phone number to the PathGroup Lab Draw Facility near our clinic is (6150 212-5571.

Specialty Testing and Rupa Health:

We are partnered with Rupa Health to make your specialty labwork experience more convenient and streamlined. Any time we order lab testing you'll receive an email from Rupa with all the instructions you need to complete testing. Their knowledgeable team is happy to answer any of your questions around lab work including:

• Lab test instructions
• How to complete the lab's requisition form
• Shipping & Tracking
• Finding a blood draw location
• Handling any issues along the way
• Submitting a Superbill

Once you receive your lab kit, be sure to read through all included information as well as any special instructions from your provider on preparation and collection. If the kit requires a blood draw, we recommend going to a walk-in lab such as AnyLabTestNow. Please be aware that kits have expiration dates on them, and certain kits have requirements on days of the week for collection and shipping back to the lab.

** There are certain test kits that are covered if you have Traditional Medicare, please let us know if you would like more information. **

LabCorp Disclaimer:

It has come to our attention that LabCorp may be requiring payment in full upfront based on their estimation of Medicare and other insurance benefits.

Although LabCorp is advising patients to contact IMC to revise diagnoses, this advice is incorrect as we are not able to review the diagnoses or add additional diagnoses.

Patients should strongly consider if they wish to have any test for which they will have to pay out-of-pocket as some tests may not be covered by your insurance plan under any circumstances.

All insurance plans, but Medicare in particular, have tightened up which tests they will pay for. Even if your insurance plan has paid for a test in the past, they may not pay for the same test in the future.

Please note that we cannot assist with review of diagnoses or additional diagnoses to encourage insurance coverage of LabCorp tests.

We strongly urge you to use the lab in the same building as IMC as they are patient-friendly and work closely with patients to resolve billing issues.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Labs ordered during your appointment are sent electronically to your preferred lab. Please refer to your care summary for more information regarding your lab tests – here you will find a list of your ordered tests, as well as information regarding time frame to have them completed, whether or not you need to fast, any medications or supplements you may need to avoid taking prior to labwork, and if there is a specific time of day they should be collected. • The amount of time it takes to receive your lab results will depend on the type of tests ordered by your provider. Certain routine tests may only take a few days, while others can take 2-4 weeks to be completed. Because of this, we ask that you are patient in receiving your results. Test results are not sent to your provider until all of the tests in an order have resulted.

Once your results have been received, they will be reviewed and then posted to your portal, which may take up to 2 business days. Results will be reviewed in detail with you at your follow up appointment, and not over the portal. If any results are critical, you will be notified along with instructions.

  • If you have an upcoming appointment to review results, please do not hesitate to contact us at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment. We will check on the status of your results to determine if you should reschedule your appointment.

  • No, you must have an appointment to go over lab results. We also encourage you not to look up information regarding your lab results as this can induce anxiety. We will review your results in detail with you at your appointment to help you understand the results as well as provide plan of care recommendations related to these results.

  • During your appointment, your provider may recommend completing labwork. You will find that providers at IMCNC may order a wider scope of tests compared to other practices. In addition, they may also recommend completing testing via one of many available test kits. While most of these test kits are not covered by insurance, they can provide incredibly valuable information that may not be available through standard lab testing.
